Living with a narcissistic disorder and self-doubt is like walking around with a rock in your shoe.

You can strut around all day like you invented shoes, but every step causes you serious pain.

The only way to relieve yourself is to take the shoe off and empty it, and if you've spent a lifetime cultivating just the perfect aire of sophisticated invulnerability, then you just can't handle the idea of stopping - of looking normal and mundane - for just a second as you balance on one leg and empty a shoe.
