EL Panel Clock

“Panel Clock”
Electroluminescent panels, wood veneer, and wood
1/2014

The Panel Clock uses a unique triangular nine-segment numeric vocabulary to display military time. The viewer may easily digest its form, but an understanding of its function requires an investment of time. I feel that this short journey is similar to our personal perception of time, our understanding of mortality, and our quest for purpose.

EL panels have been around for many years, but used largely in lighting design. Micro veneers are newer, and have proven applications in stationery and woodworking. I saw the fine art potential of these materials, and wanted to use them to create something the world had not seen before.

The panel clock is inspired by the brilliant products of TokyoFlash.
